Happy Friday the 13th 😱👻👀

It’s Friday the 13th in October 😳, let’s talk about it. So while I wouldn’t consider myself a very superstitious person, you still won’t find me walking under an open ladder (mostly because I find it weird, like if you had the chance to walk around the ladder why wouldn’t you?) or looking for stray black cats in the street. I don’t believe in all spooky superstitions, but I will say that I do believe in some. Take ghosts for instance, if someone tells me they’ve seen a ghost in their house, you bet my next question is going to be whether it’s a friendly one or not because there’s a big difference between Casper and his mean uncles. There’s no doubt in my mind that both types of ghosts exist, but I’m not prepared to deal with the latter.

Back to Friday the 13th, I have an interesting fascination with the idea of Friday the 13th and all it entails. I always wonder if some type of bad omen really reigns over it and if some weird unexplainable chain of events will occur to me that day. Don’t get me wrong I’m a scaredy cat, but I oddly like being scared if that makes any sense? I’m the type of person that watches scary movies between the holes of my interlaced fingers and a blanket over my head, but I like being spooked and if you have a strong significant other who is going to hold your hand and protect you during these spooky moments UH WHY NOT, like yes take me to every haunted house in America then 🙋🏻. The other part of me wonders if Friday the 13th is just a figment of our imagination and the coincidences are just that, pure coincidence (boring). I did a little more research on Friday the 13th this morning and I found that once I started reading I couldn’t stop. There have been a lot of deaths on Fridays that land on the 13th day of the month. Horrific events such as: Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, the pope getting shot, Kitty Genovese being stabbed which created the Bystander Theory, a 13-year-old boy being struck by lightning at exactly 13:13, and of course the death of Tupac, RIP one of the greatest rappers 🙏🏽.

Today is supposed to be one of the unluckiest days of the year, so whether you believe or not, it doesn’t hurt to take precautions. Thought I would leave you with a short anecdote about my Friday the 13th experience: on my drive to Philadelphia this morning, I thought I forgot my phone right as I was approaching the bridge. After momentarily freaking out in the car, I found that I was actually sitting on it. Scary stuff right?? I know. If there is anything that scares millennials these days, it’s forgetting a cell phone and losing all social connection with the world. Let’s just say that my belief in Friday the 13th grew a little more today… (immediately after this I realized I actually forgot my EZ-Pass and went through the toll booth anyway) oops 😬. Happy 13th everyone, thanks for coming on my adventures. Be safe!

Stay tuned for more adventures…
xoxo Mimi

  1. The 13th doesn’t have to always be unlucky. Some people were born on Friday the 13th, which makes it their lucky day! ☘️
