Reading Terminal Market 😋

The great thing about working in Center City is that there is an endless amount of food options. Despite the fact that my coworkers and I are always asking each other “what’s there to eat?” 🙄 I think the problem we are actually facing is simply having too many choices at our fingertips (story of our generation). Reading Terminal Market is a prime example of this too many options concept, but it perfectly demonstrates how having a plethora of options isn’t always a bad thing. The Reading Terminal Market is a huge tourist spot, but to some of us that work around here we just consider it to be one of the best places to grab a bite during our lunch break. It is located right off of North 12th Street within walking distance from the Philadelphia Convention Center. For those who have never been or want to know what the fuss is all about, the Reading Terminal Market is an urban farmers’ market with a variety of food, desserts, specialty drinks, produce, and more, all under one roof. What I love most about this place is that it is a one-stop-shop for all of your food desires. Virtually any cuisine you are craving, chances are they have it here.

The Reading Terminal highlights some of the best eateries in Philadelphia. Some of my favorites include: Hershel’s East Side Deli , which has an awesome selection of deli meats. Hands down one of the best reuben sandwiches I’ve ever had came from this place. If you’re still going for the sandwich theme there’s also DiNic’s that has a delectable roast pork sandwich. Valley Shepard Creamery & Melter Skelter serves up some artisan grilled cheese sandwiches with pairings that even I as a grilled cheese lover could never have imagined. If you’re in the mood for some pierogis there is Famous Franks A Lot, which also has some really good cornbread too. The last time I was there they had banana, peach and even pineapple cornbread but you got to get there before it runs out! Beck’s Cajun Cafe is one I have yet to personally try, but my coworker just had the po boy and gumbo from there for lunch today while I opted for a cheesesteak from Spataro’s. Also, I’ve heard only good things about the fried chicken and soul food sides from Keven Parker’s Soul Food Cafe. On to dessert, one of my favorites is the Famous 4th Street Cookie Co. I love the chocolate chip walnut cookies and I never leave the Reading Terminal without one. If you’re in the mood for some ice cream you can’t go wrong with Bassetts. They even have pumpkin ice cream for the season. Doughnut craving? I do[nut] blame you, go check out Beiler’s, you won’t regret it. Lastly, to meet your caffeine needs there’s Old City Coffee which I love, so go get a cup of joe or PSL on your way out.

That’s my roundup of my Reading Terminal Market favorites. Lucky for me I’m only a hop, skip, and jump away from this food landmark, and I go there to eat on a fairly frequent basis, but whether you’re visiting Philadelphia or are a resident who has never been I definitely suggest going at least once to check it out. Thanks for joining me on yet another food adventure 😄.

Stay tuned for more adventures…
xoxo Mimi

  1. Went to visit my sons a few weeks ago and met a friend for lunch. We went to Molly Malloy’s and had something called “Not Your Mother’s Grilled Cheese” (OMG, amazing!). The noise level in the market is unbelievable, especially since I’ve been living on the edge of a Florida swamp for quite a few years. But I so miss the energy, excitement and yes, the food of Philly. Nice post!

    • Aw nice! Yes, Molly Malloy’s is also a really great spot in the Reading Terminal Market (honestly there are so many it’s hard to list them all). I’m glad that you enjoyed yourself and the food that you had there. Next time you are in the area I hope you get to check out more of the awesome food that the bustling Philadelphia region has to offer!
