Kai Japanese Cuisine 😋

You know when you haven’t visited a place for a little while and then you go back to it and you remember why you love it there so much? Yea well that happened to me today during lunch. I wanted to talk about this little place called ‘Kai.’ It is a trendy Japanese restaurant that is located on 10th street near Chinatown in Center City, Philadelphia. This place has one of the best lunch specials I’ve come across. Kai is a big hit with my coworkers in the area which is how I had originally heard of this place a while back. I went through a phase when I went there a lot for lunch (I mean A LOT). I have since pulled back on my mercury intake with sushi, but it doesn’t make me love and crave it any less on a daily basis. In recent weeks, I had given Kai and its employees a break from seeing my face. Instead, I’ve been venturing to other neighboring restaurants in Chinatown, Reading Terminal Market, &pizza, Honeygrow, Snap Pizza, Cosī, even the Taco Bell occasionally [I ❤️ TB]. I eat out often okay… I get it 🙄🙄. Anywho, I was very indecisive about my lunch today, but eventually went with a place I knew was a safe bet and wouldn’t let me down: Kai 😊.

I have a slight sushi obsession. At this point I feel that I have a pretty good sush-dar (aka sushi-radar) and this place is legit. They have a wonderful lunch menu that spans from 11:30am-3pm where you can get bento boxes and sushi/sashimi combos for only ~$10. For lunch here I usually go with the sushi A or sushi B option which comes with 1 roll of your choice, 4 pieces chef’s choice, and a miso soup or ginger salad. They also have unagi (eel over rice), tekka (tuna over rice), and chicken curry lunch bowls which are quite delicious as well. This place is so cute and the food is always good! I think the other great part about Kai is the intimate, chic setting along with the service. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, I promise they never stop smiling at you from the time you walk in to the time you leave. If you’re coming to relax after a long day at work they are also BYOB and open seven days a week. If you’re in the area or are looking for a new lunch spot definitely go check this place out. Side note: If you have a Jefferson ID they’ll give you a discount! (I mean who doesn’t love great service, great food and a discount?).

Stay tuned for more adventures…
xoxo Mimi
