Getting my Freeze on at Orange Cryo Wellness ❄️

This Halloween I decided to trick or freeze at Orange Cryo Wellness on 4th Street in NoLibs Philadelphia. I was treated to a sweet (& cold very, very cold) surprise with a whole body cryotherapy and cryo facial treatment. This revolutionary treatment is changing the game for health, beauty, and recovery. Basically cryotherapy is the use of extreme cold as a treatment for a variety of ailments and also has significant health benefits. Many professional athletes, especially in the Philadelphia area, use Orange Cryo Wellness as a place to recover from sore muscles and alleviate pain. Think of it as sitting in an ice bath after a long strenuous game, only cryotherapy is better and more effective.. and it takes just 3 minutes!

Not an athlete? Not a problem. Orange Cryo provides health and wellness benefits beyond muscle and strength function. It increases blood with oxygen and other nutrients, helps with: inflammation, arthritis, and post-surgery, improves sleep quality and increases endorphins (and who doesn’t love those feel-good chemicals?). My particular favorite is that Cryotherapy facials can help by slowing down the aging process and tighten your skin making you feel and look radiant. 🙋🏻 Yes please, sign me up! You can find the entire list of benefits that Orange Cryo provides here.

So lets talk about my wonderful experience at this place. First of all the staff is amazing, they made my visit so easy and enjoyable. The Philly location is very simple to get to and you can honestly be in and out after your treatment within 15 minutes or less. The whole body cryotherapy session lasts 3 minutes and exposes the body to subzero temperatures using liquid nitrogen vapor. Now I will say as a first timer you’re body will be shocked at how cold it gets, we’re talking about negative 130 degrees Celsius aka -202 degrees Fahrenheit. -202 °F was as far as I went; however, some people like to go as low as -256 °F 😳⛄️. After stepping into the cryo chamber I immediately started shaking, but the staff kept me cool, calm, and collected by talking me through it and distracting me during treatment. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I actually ended up loving it and can’t wait to go back! The best part of the post-whole body cryo is something they like to call the “cryo high.” As your body is recovering from the freezing temperatures and warming back up your body is full of anti-inflammatory proteins, endorphins and oxygen and you feel super energized. I felt so good and full of energy when I came out of the cryo chamber, it was as if I had taken at least 5 shots of espresso in terms of how awake and refreshed I felt. Next was my cryo facial which uses a stream of vaporized liquid nitrogen to cool the skin. It lasts about 6 minutes and produces tightness in the skin, fills in fine lines, wrinkles and most importantly activates collagen production. Mike the store manager at Orange Cryo Northern Liberties is so friendly and really knows his stuff. He is super welcoming and talked me through all of the treatments I received. On your first visit you fill out a medical questionnaire on an iPad that only takes a few minutes and then you are good to go. They keep this medical assessment on file which makes your subsequent visits faster and easier.

Orange Cryo Wellness will be running some holiday specials so be on the lookout for those in their newsletter which you can sign up for on their website here.
